This week, Governor Nikki Haley proclaimed June 2011 as General Aviation Appreciation Month in South Carolina.

There are now 23 states that have publicly recognized the value of general and business aviation to their respective economies.

She writes, in part, Aviation plays a vital role in the economy of South Carolina, providing many thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic activity.

I would encourage everyone to take a moment and think about the various ways business aviation has an impact on their lives. The airport is considered the premier gateway into a community. It provides timely access for medical emergencies and allows freight and passengers to be transported easily. This helps lower cost, increases productivity, and brings jobs to rural communities. The airport is really a community’s economic hub.

Special Services has supported the interests and activities of the business aviation community for many years and we’re proud to be a part of an industry that plays such a vital role in our State’s economy.
